{{mid-afternoon}} January 31st, 2005 › Interview with a link spammer

The Register published an article today about blog comment spam - Interview with a link spammer, It is interesting to see how ‘Sam’ sees his work as legal and how different the world of comment spam is to email spam.

As an aside its nice to know that we now have yet another meaning to add to the list for the acronym PPC (”Power PC”, “Pocket PC”, “pills, porn and casinos”)

While working today I’m listening to Radio Free Zion which I found out about whilst reading /.
They are aiming to be the choice for in game music for the upcoming MMORPG - The Matrix Online

So far the music choice has been varied and enjoyable - and the lack of adverts/excessive dj speel is good!

When we got up this morning it looked quite nice outside so we decided to go for a walk. This meant a chance to really try out my new camera and get some nice wildlife photos at the local nature reserve.

Here are a few of my favourites:

Spellbound - A spell checker for firefox - integrates very well and allows spell checking of any text-field.
So hopefully this post should all be spelt correctly ;-)

{{in the late afternoon}} January 10th, 2005 › Comment Spam

Recently the comment spam on my blog has been getting out of hand (I get so few real comments that I’ve considered turning comments off altogether but that seems to break the whole blogging paradigm for me)
I’ve always had moderation turned on so none of it ever makes it on to the user viewable pages but deleting the spam every day was becoming a bit of a bore.

So I thought I’d try out drDave’s Spam Karma - I’ve had it running for a few days now and it seems to be working very well. The digest reports are useful and I’ve not had any false positive results yet!
